DRI International Reaches 13,000 Certified Professionals Worldwide
• Organizations see need and value in disaster preparedness
• Advanced certifications show exceptional level of growth
• Global growth especially strong in the Middle East and Africa
NEW YORK, May 8, 2015 – Disaster Recovery Institute International (DRI), the world's foremost business continuity certification and education organization, announced today that it has certified more than 13,000 business continuity and disaster recovery professionals worldwide. DRI's milestone reflects growing interest in, and the importance of, the field of business continuity.
"Today's businesses face a collection of risks that the world has never experienced," said DRI CEO and President Al Berman. "Whether it is a natural, geopolitical or cyber threat, businesses must be prepared to handle any situation. Having certified business continuity professionals on staff is critical to ensuring that an organization can successfully manage a range of crises and disastrous incidents."
DRI certifications recognize that a professional has achieved proficiency in business continuity and related fields. They are also a testament to a respected individual's level of professional experience and commitment to continued education. Certification courses in business continuity planning, business continuity auditing, and risk management are offered in classrooms, online, and directly within organizations around the world. DRI also offers specialized certifications for public sector and healthcare professionals.
DRI certifications have doubled since 2008 and this year's annual conference drew record attendance. Of particular note, DRI has recently seen an increased level of advanced certifications. For example, within the first 12,000 certifications DRI issued, 271 were Masters Business Continuity Professionals (MBCP). Within the last 1,600 certifications, 55 were MBCPs representing 20% growth in candidates seeking advanced certification. Additionally, Certified Business Continuity Lead Auditor (CBCLA) certifications grew 25% during the same timeframe.
Geographically, DRI has seen the number of certifications grow significantly in the Middle East and Africa, which saw 40% growth followed by Asia & Australia at 19%, Europe at 14% and the Americas at 12% from the first 12,000 certifications to date.
In a recent international survey conducted by BC Management Inc., DRI's business continuity certifications were cited in an initial finding as being the most prevalent certifications by far among business continuity professionals. In fact, more than 58% of the business continuity professionals surveyed worldwide have attained DRI's Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP) certification.
For those interested in advancing their careers, DRI offers a number of resources and events including an annual DRI Conference, Awards of Excellence announced at the annual DRI Conference, a Scholarship opportunity through the DRI Foundation, and one-day Collegiate Conferences taking place at several universities throughout the U.S. and Canada. The next Collegiate Conference will be taking place at Dominican University in San Rafael, California on July 10th, 2015. Registration for the event is currently open on the DRI website.
