A fast-paced course built for experienced professionals who want to take their career to the next level, Business Continuity Review (BCP 501) is a short, effective refresher. You'll get the chance to re-acquaint yourself with the key elements of business continuity planning and the DRI Professional Practices. With guidance from experienced instructors, the aim of this course is to give you the tools you need to pass the Qualifying Examination, which is the first step toward becoming a DRI Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP), Associate Business Continuity Professional (ABCP), Master Business Continuity Professional (MBCP), Certified Functional Continuity Professional (CFCP), or Certified Business Continuity Vendor (CBCV).


1. Review the elements of a disaster/emergency management and business continuity program, as defined by the DRI International Professional Practices
2. Understand industry terminology in the Professional Practices
3. Prepare to pass the DRI Qualifying Examination with a minimum passing grade of 75


Lesson 1: Program Initiation and Management
- Review how to establish the need for a business continuity program and obtain management support
- Brush up on how to organize and manage the process of developing a business continuity program

Lesson 2: Risk Evaluation and Control
- Review the basic concepts of risk management
- Review why a risk assessment is important to a business continuity program, the elements of a risk assessment, and how these are utilized to build a business continuity program

Lesson 3: Business Impact Analysis
- Review business impact analysis (BIA) methodology
- Review BIA terms and definitions, such as business function and process criticality, interdependencies, recovery time objective (RTO), recovery point objective (RPO), and organizational impacts

Lesson 4: Developing Business Continuity Strategies
- Briefly discuss the challenges of selecting appropriate strategies for recovery of business processes, critical functions, operations, and the supporting information technologies within the specified RTO
- Review alternative strategies, assess their strengths and weaknesses, and identify methods for presentation to senior management
- Revisit the process steps involved in analysis and strategy determination, supported by the risk assessment and BIA

Lesson 5: Emergency Preparedness and Response
- Review emergency management structure and the planning necessary to manage a crisis, including identification, escalation, and notification procedures
- Review emergency evacuation programs, life safety procedures, emergency response procedures, and plan activation procedures
- Brush up on the activation of the emergency operations center and corresponding command centers, securing the area, assessing damage, as well as salvage and restoration activities

Lesson 6: Business Continuity Plan Development and Implementation
- Review the process of enacting the business continuity management (BCM) program by identifying all plan components, including methodology, implementation, organization, and documentation
- Review how to develop a plan document that best meets the needs of the organization and is user-friendly for stakeholders
- Revisit the elements of plan administration and plan documentation

Lesson 7: Awareness and Training Programs
- Review developing and implementing a BCM awareness program, including staff training

Lesson 8: Business Continuity Plan Exercise, Audit and Maintenance
- Review the components needed to establish an exercise, testing, maintenance, and audit program
- Review BCM exercises, change management program, and audit process

Lesson 9: Crisis Communications
- Briefly discuss how to develop procedures for communicating with all audiences, identify and train spokespeople, develop key messages, and work effectively with the media

Lesson 10: Coordination with External Agencies
- Review communication techniques, partnerships, and the incident command system
- Review compliance issues with applicable statutes or regulations, terminology, priorities of first responders, and how to interface with emergency agencies

Cancellation Policy

Courses are scheduled subject to a minimum enrollment. If enrollment for a particular course does not meet the minimum, that class is cancelled or rescheduled. If DRI International must cancel a class for any reason, DRI's liability is limited to the paid registration fee. DRI makes every effort to notify registered participants as soon as possible if classes are cancelled.

Registration applies only to the individual named on the registration form. If you want to substitute another individual from the same company, you must contact the course registrar prior to the first day of the course. Rescheduling must occur within twelve months of the originally scheduled course and no more than three course transfers are permitted. Within twelve months, there is no charge for course transfers. If you exceed the allotted twelve months for rescheduling or limit of three course transfers, no refunds will be made.

The following refund policies apply:

  • No refund will be issued if an individual cancels within 14 days of the first day of the course
  • A 50% refund will be issued if an individual cancels within 15-29 days of the first day of the course
  • A full refund will be issued if an individual cancels 30+ days before the first day of the course
