DRI International Announces First Prestigious Hub of Resilience Designation to NYU Langone Medical Center
Resilience and Preparedness Accreditation Recognized with DRI’s Official 'Seal of Excellence'
New York – January 29, 2016 – Today, Disaster Recovery Institute (DRI) International, the world's foremost business continuity certification and education nonprofit organization, announced NYU Langone Medical Center as the first institution to receive accreditation with the prestigious "Hub of Resilience" designation. NYU Langone will be formally presented with the award and designation at DRI2016, DRI's 5th annual conference at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta, held March 6-9, 2016.
"We are pleased to present NYU Langone with the esteemed DRI 'seal of excellence' and recognize the medical institution as a dedicated leader paving the way for resiliency and preparedness within the healthcare community," said Al Berman, President of DRI International. "NYU Langone will be the first of many organizations to drive growth and knowledge of building business continuity infrastructure, as well as encouraging other leading organizations across industries to undergo evaluation and become certified as resilient."
NYU Langone's "Hub of Resilience" designation reflects its extraordinary commitment to preparedness and resiliency, and its high standards of resilience training and track record of advising on business continuity capabilities within the healthcare industry. NYU Langone will also serve the healthcare community as a center and source for resilience information, education and thought leadership.
"NYU Langone is honored to receive this distinguished endorsement and resilience certification and become a partner with DRI to help lead the charge for encouraging businesses to take the pledge and invest in resiliency efforts," said Brad Gair, Vice President of the NYU Langone Emergency Management & Enterprise Resilience Department. "We want to strongly encourage other public and private sector leaders, especially those involved in managing and operating critical infrastructure, to take action and become part of a certified network of resilient businesses to be prepared for unexpected challenges and disruptions."
"Being resilient and helping people in need is central to our mission, and we are well on our way to transforming our facilities to ensure we can keep critical systems functioning through a storm much bigger than Sandy," said Paul Schwabacher, Senior Vice President, Facilities Management, NYU Langone. "Even more importantly, we are working to understand all the risks we could potentially face and implement strategies to keep us safe through what we can foresee, as well as help protect us from unanticipated risks."
Established to recognize organizations that have demonstrated extraordinary commitment to preparedness and resiliency, the "Hub of Resilience" and "Resilient Enterprise" awards are DRI's official "standard of excellence" designations.
• Recipients of the "Hub of Resilience" award will not only show a dedication to making their organization resilient, but also will serve as a center for providing information, education and thought leadership to their community and industry. Organizations seeking accreditation must demonstrate preparedness by contributing personnel, materials, technical and management advice to aid others within their industry.
• The "Resilient Enterprise" will be awarded to entities recognized for extraordinary commitment to areas of Business Continuity Management (BCM), including emergency management, business continuity, disaster recovery, and crisis management.
All organizations are eligible to apply for the "Hub of Resilience" and "Resilience Enterprise" designations which require an extensive evaluation process and strict qualifying protocols in an effort to ensure the appropriate level of knowledge and proficiency of an entity’s BCM program.
